Nau Devi Yatra
Nine goddess shrines of the north
The Nau Devi (nine goddesses) yatra links nine Devi shrines across Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab–Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, traditionally undertaken during Navaratri.
The nine shrines are regarded as forms of the one Divine Mother, and Navaratri – nine nights for nine forms of Durga – gives the yatra its rhythm. Several are Shakti Peethas, where Sati's body is said to have fallen.
Devotees from Punjab, Haryana and Delhi often travel by bus or car in a single trip of 7–10 days, starting or ending at Vaishno Devi.
