Baba Baidyanath Temple Management Board, Deoghar
Statutory board · Baba Mandir campus, Deoghar, Jharkhand
The board runs Baba Baidyanath Dham at Deoghar, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The main shrine is surrounded by about 21–22 smaller temples in the same compound. Worship is led by hereditary Panda priests. Every Shravan (July–August), lakhs of kanwariyas carry Ganga water about 100 km from Sultanganj for the Shravani Mela. A 2015 state Act created a development authority covering both Deoghar and Basukinath (Dumka).
How it is run
Run by the district administration. A temple site lists the Deputy Commissioner of Deoghar as Administrator and the SDM as temple in-charge (2026). A separate statutory Shrine Area Development Authority (2015 Act) handles development and regulation of the Deoghar and Basukinath shrine areas, including the Shravani Mela.
Tips for pilgrims
- Shravan Mondays during the Shravani Mela are the most crowded days of the year. Expect queues of many hours.
- Mobile phones have been restricted inside the temple. Check current rules before you go.
- Many pilgrims combine Deoghar with Basukinath (about 45 km away in Dumka district).
