Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple (with Mamleshwar)

Mandhata (Shivpuri) island on the Narmada, Omkareshwar, Khandwa district · Lord Shiva as Omkareshwar ('Lord of Om'); the Jyotirlinga is honoured together with Mamleshwar (Amareshwar) on the south bank

A Jyotirlinga on an Om-shaped island in the Narmada, worshipped together with its twin Mamleshwar across the river – and now crowned by a 108-ft statue of Adi Shankaracharya.

Omkareshwar lies 77 km from Indore, where the Narmada splits around Mandhata island, about 4 km long, whose outline is said to resemble the sacred syllable Om. The Jyotirlinga temple stands on the island's southern edge above the river. Across the water on the south bank is the Mamleshwar (Amareshwar) temple; the Dvadasha Jyotirlinga Stotram names this pair 'Omkaram Amaleshwaram', so pilgrims visit both. Darshan is free; the trust's website sells Shighra Darshan tickets (₹300), abhishek, Narmada aarti, navagraha and other poojas, and simple dormitory stays.
