Coastal Karnataka temples
Parashurama Kshetra, from Udupi to Gokarna
The great temples of Karnataka's coast and Western Ghats – Udupi, Kollur, Kukke Subramanya, Dharmasthala, Murudeshwar and Gokarna.
In legend this coast was reclaimed from the sea by Parashurama, who threw his axe into the ocean; the region is called Parashurama Kshetra. Its temples follow distinctive Tulu Nadu and Madhva traditions – mathas, free annadana, and rituals such as Sarpa Samskara at Kukke.
