Shri Vitthal Rukmini Mandir Samiti, Pandharpur
Statutory board · Pandharpur, Solapur district, Maharashtra
The Samiti runs the Vitthal (Vithoba) temple, including the Garud temple, and the Rukmini temple at Pandharpur on the Chandrabhaga river, with their parivar devata shrines. This is the main shrine of the Varkari tradition. Lakhs of pilgrims walk here in the Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi wari processions. The Samiti also runs a large green-certified Bhakta Niwas.
How it is run
A temples committee set up under the Pandharpur Temples Act manages the temples. An Executive Officer handles administration. The Act abolished the hereditary rights of the Badve and Utpat priest families.
