Bihar State Board of Religious Trusts (Bihar State Religious Trust Council)
Statutory board · Patna, Bihar
The board registers and supervises public Hindu religious trusts in Bihar under the 1950 Act. It keeps records of the assets of registered temples, maths and trusts. In 2024 it reported about 2,499 registered temples owning over 18,000 acres. The government has pushed to register about 2,500 more. Unlike temple boards in some states, it does not run day-to-day worship at most temples. Local trusts and committees do that under its oversight.
How it is run
A statutory board under the Bihar Law Department. Public temples, maths, trusts and dharmashalas must register with it, and it supervises their accounts and property. Ranbir Nandan was its head in November 2025.
Tips for pilgrims
- Darshan, prasad and lodging are handled by each temple's own trust or committee, not by the board. Contact the temple directly.
